The two positive numbers whose sum is 40 and the product of the cube of one number and the other number is maximum, are

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 3

Let the numbers be xx and 40−x40-x and maximise P=x3(40−x)P = x^3(40-x).

Then P=40x3−x4P = 40x^3 - x^4 and P′=120x2−4x3=4x2(30−x)P' = 120x^2 - 4x^3 = 4x^2(30-x), which vanishes at x=30x=30.

So the numbers are 3030 and 1010.
