In a kilometer race, A can beat B by 100 m. In a race of 400 m, B can beat C by 40 m. By how many meters will A beat C in a race of 500 m?

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 2

When A covers 10001000, B covers 900900, so B runs 0.90.9 times A's distance. When B covers 400400, C covers 360360, so C runs 0.90.9 times B's distance.

In 500500 m by A: B covers 450450 and C covers 0.9×450=4050.9\times450=405.

Hence A beats C by 9595 m.
