Consider the surface areas of the following solids.

(A) A cuboid of 12 cm long, 7 cm broad, and 5 cm high.

(B) A cylinder of radius 3.5 cm and height 60 cm.

(C) A cone of radius 6 cm and height 8 cm.

(D) A sphere of radius 12.5 cm.

Arrange the above in decreasing order.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 4

Cuboid: 2(12⋅7+7⋅5+5⋅12)=3582(12 \cdot 7 + 7 \cdot 5 + 5 \cdot 12) = 358.

Cylinder: 2πr(r+h)=2π(3.5)(63.5)≈13972\pi r(r+h) = 2\pi (3.5)(63.5) \approx 1397.

Cone: slant l=10l = 10, so πr(r+l)=π(6)(16)≈302\pi r(r+l) = \pi (6)(16) \approx 302.

Sphere: 4πr2=4π(12.5)2≈19634\pi r^2 = 4\pi (12.5)^2 \approx 1963.

Decreasing order is (D), (B), (A), (C).
