A man invested 13\frac{1}{3} of his capital at 8%, 14\frac{1}{4} at 10% and the remainder at 12%. If his annual income is ₹671, find the capital.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 3

The remainder is 1−13−14=5121-\frac{1}{3}-\frac{1}{4}=\frac{5}{12} of capital CC.

Income =C3(0.08)+C4(0.10)+5C12(0.12)=C(8300+10400+601200)=61C600=\frac{C}{3}(0.08)+\frac{C}{4}(0.10)+\frac{5C}{12}(0.12)=C\left(\frac{8}{300}+\frac{10}{400}+\frac{60}{1200}\right)=\frac{61C}{600}.

So 61C600=671\frac{61C}{600}=671, giving C=6600C=6600.
