While purchasing one item costing Rs. 600 , I had to pay the sales tax at 6% and on another costing Rs. 16000, the sales tax was 10%. What percent of the sales tax I had pay, taking the two items together on an average?

Solution

Correct Option: 2

Total tax =0.06×600+0.10×16000=36+1600=1636=0.06\times600+0.10\times16000=36+1600=1636. Total cost =600+16000=16600=600+16000=16600. Average tax %=163616600×1009.86%\%=\frac{1636}{16600}\times100\approx9.86\%, closest to 9.9%.
