Yadu, Madhu and Vidu are partners, sharing profit and losses in the ratio of 2:2:1. Their fixed capitals on April 01, 2018 were:

Yadu Rs. 5,00,000, Madhu Rs. 4,00,000 and Vidu is 3,50,000.

On the basis of the profit and loss appropriation account, Partners' distribution of loss would be:

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 1

Looking at this problem, we need to understand what happens when there's a net loss and how it affects the distribution among partners.

Given Information:

  • Net Loss from P&L Account = Rs. 75,000
  • Profit Sharing Ratio = 2:2:1
  • Interest on Capital @ 5% p.a. and Yadu's salary are entitled as per deed

Key Understanding:

When there is a net loss, the appropriations (interest on capital and salary) are generally not provided unless there are sufficient profits. Since the firm has already incurred a loss of Rs. 75,000, there are no profits available for appropriation.

Therefore, the net loss of Rs. 75,000 is distributed directly among partners in their profit-sharing ratio of 2:2:1.

Calculation:

Total ratio parts = 2 + 2 + 1 = 5

Yadu's share of loss = 75,000×2575,000 \times \frac{2}{5} = Rs. 30,000

Madhu's share of loss = 75,000×2575,000 \times \frac{2}{5} = Rs. 30,000

Vidu's share of loss = 75,000×1575,000 \times \frac{1}{5} = Rs. 15,000

Verification: 30,000 + 30,000 + 15,000 = Rs. 75,000 ✓

The partners bear the loss in the same proportion as they share profits, which is their profit-sharing ratio. When there's a net loss, the question of providing interest on capital and partner's salary doesn't arise as these are appropriations that can only be made out of profits.

Answer: Option 1 - Yadu Rs. 30,000, Madhu Rs. 30,000, Vidu Rs. 15,000
