The points in the interval [0,2π][0,2\pi], where the function f(x)=cos⁡2x+2sin⁡xcos⁡xf(x) = \cos2x + 2\sin x\cos x, attains its local minima, is/are:

A. π/8\pi/8

B. 5π/85\pi/8

C. 13π/813\pi/8

D. 11π/811\pi/8

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 3

f(x)=cos⁡2x+sin⁡2x=2sin⁡(2x+π4)f(x)=\cos 2x+\sin 2x=\sqrt2\sin\left(2x+\dfrac{\pi}{4}\right).

Minima occur when 2x+π4=3π2+2kπ2x+\dfrac{\pi}{4}=\dfrac{3\pi}{2}+2k\pi, i.e. x=5π8+kπx=\dfrac{5\pi}{8}+k\pi.

In [0,2π][0,2\pi] these are 5π8\dfrac{5\pi}{8} and 13π8\dfrac{13\pi}{8}, i.e. B and C.
