When they meet, A has covered $60 - 12 = 48$ km and B has covered $60 + 12 = 72$ km in the same time. If A's speed is $a$ , then $\frac{48}{a} = \frac{72}{a+4}$ , so $48a + 192 = 72a$ , giving $24a = 192$ and $a = 8$ km/hr.
