IPMAT Indore Syllabus FAQs
Can I skip Geometry for IPMAT Indore?
Not entirely, but you can be selective. Across the 8 previous papers analysed here, Geometry contributed 55 of the 345 Quantitative Ability questions (about 16%), roughly 7 a year. That is a small share, so it should not be your first priority. But every question carries 4 marks and the final cutoff is decided by a handful of marks, so dropping the topic outright is an avoidable loss.
Cover the high-frequency basics: triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, mensuration of solids, and straight lines (coordinate geometry). Leave the lengthier areas such as conic sections and trigonometry beyond the standard identities for the end. In what order should I complete the IPMAT Indore Quant syllabus?
Follow dependency order first and weightage second, so that each topic builds on the one before it:
- Arithmetic: percentages, ratio & proportion, averages, time-speed- distance, time & work, profit & loss, interest. The base for word problems and Data Interpretation.
- Number System: HCF & LCM, divisibility, remainders, unit digits. Short, formula-light and a regular source of Short Answer (SA) questions.
- Algebra: linear equations, inequalities, progressions, functions, indices, logarithms, polynomials. The bulk of the harder MCQs.
- Modern Math: permutation & combination, probability, set theory, matrices & determinants, binomial theorem. Needs Algebra first.
- Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning: arrangements, puzzles, tournaments, bar graphs and tables. Mostly practice once Arithmetic is comfortable.
- Geometry: triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, solids, straight lines, then trigonometry and conic sections last.

Practise the SA format from the start, not at the end. SA questions have no negative marking, so every topic you learn should be tested against SA-style questions where you must compute the exact answer without options to eliminate.
Is LR actually part of the syllabus if there is no separate LR section?
Yes. IPMAT Indore has no separate Logical Reasoning section, unlike IPMAT Rohtak or JIPMAT, but reasoning questions are asked inside Quantitative Ability under Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning: arrangements, puzzles, tournaments, and DI sets built on bar graphs and tables.
Because these are scored as Quant MCQs, they carry the same 4 marks and the same negative marking as the rest of the Quant paper. Prepare seating arrangements, puzzles and DI calculation at moderate depth; you do not need the exhaustive LR preparation a dedicated section would demand. Verbal Ability also tests reasoning indirectly through parajumbles, paracompletion and conversation analysis, which reward logical ordering and inference rather than vocabulary alone.
Do I need to finish the entire syllabus before starting mocks?
No, and waiting until you have is the most common mistake. Start attempting full-length previous year papers as timed mocks once you have covered roughly 60–70% of the high-weightage subtopics (the first few entries in each section's list above), usually six to eight weeks into preparation.
Each IPMAT Indore section is separately timed, so speed and question selection decide your score as much as coverage does, and only timed attempts train that. After every mock, list the subtopics you got wrong or skipped, revise those, and use topic-wise practice to close the gap before the next attempt.
