B. The Nepal External affairs minister visited India in January 2024

D. Discussions include purchasing 10000 MW of hydro-power from Nepal

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 1

Statement A is correct. India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited Nepal on 4–5 January 2024 for the 7th India–Nepal Joint Commission meeting.

Statement D is also correct. During this period, India and Nepal signed a long-term power trade agreement under which India would import up to 10,000 MW of electricity from Nepal over the next 10 years. Therefore, Statement C, which reverses the direction of power purchase, is incorrect.

Hence, the factually correct answer is A and D only.

However, the official NTA answer key marks A and C only, which appears to be an error in the answer key, as the official India–Nepal agreement clearly concerns India purchasing power from Nepal, not Nepal purchasing 10,000 MW from India.
