Five persons are standing in a straight line and facing in the same direction. At one of the extreme end, there is a Doctor and at the other extreme end, there is a Lawyer. A Marketing Officer is standing to the right of a girl. An Author is to the left of the Lawyer. The girl is standing between the Doctor & the Marketing Officer. Counting from the left, determine that the Marketing Officer is at which place in the group?

Let the five positions in the line be numbered 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from left to right.

Since Doctor is at one extreme and Lawyer at the other extreme, they occupy positions 1 and 5.

Since Author is to the left of the Lawyer, the Lawyer cannot be at position 1 (leftmost).

Therefore:

Lawyer is at position 5
Doctor is at position 1

The girl is between the Doctor and the Marketing Officer, and the Marketing Officer is to the right of the girl.

This gives the arrangement: Doctor ... Girl ... Marketing Officer

Since Doctor is at position 1, and Marketing Officer is to the right of the girl, we have:

Doctor (position 1) — Girl — Marketing Officer

Author must be to the left of the Lawyer (position 5), so Author can be at positions 2, 3, or 4.

Testing the arrangement where:

Girl is at position 2
Marketing Officer is at position 3
Author is at position 4
