So I was giving the vocabulary daily test. A sentence said "The damage to the manuscript was irretrievable after the flood destroyed the library", I marked it false but it said I was wrong. So is this a case of irretrievable being used in an abstract manner?

The sentence is correct because irretrievable means something that cannot be recovered, retrieved, or restored.
“The damage to the manuscript was irretrievable” means the damage was beyond recovery or repair.
Remember that, Irretrievable can describe both tangible things and abstract concepts, such as damage, loss, or opportunities.
