Hey there! I know this maybe a niche advice, but ill still put it out there in case it helps. Earlier I too would taake 6-7 minutes for an RC but ive been able to cut it down to 2-3 minutes by just trusting my instincts! A lot of times we keep crosschecking answers with the passage to make sure we get it right, but perhaps its just overthinking that you need to eliminate. This will help you gain confidence for the actually exam as well! Second of all, sometimes ive noticed that the summarising time might get included. If that's happening, you dont need to worry. Focus on the time taken for question solving only.
Broo, 2-3 minutes is bananas!! I take atleast 4 minutes just to read the whole RC lol.
I agree a lot of my time actually goes in cross checking, especially in those questions where we are given phrases from the paragraphs.
I am not sure about the approach as I don't think I have that level of confidence, (self awareness bht h, lol!!)
Thanks for your time.
Increase ur reading speed tbh it may sound generic but thats what you acc gotta do read 5 paras of any essay daily, make reading a habit. (Tip: keep looking at the time while giving ur RC it will enable u to solve it faster when u realise that ur taking too much time)
alright, thank you.
see, my one
Bro I'm just scared, i at least take 9-10 minutes even after writing the points down. Please Give me some tips on time
I am myself looking for tips to take less time but ig with regular practice we will not need to write the points down (I am now able to retain more w/o writing as much i used to). The game is to retain and understand the RC which I couldn't earlier w/o writing anything down. So, ig we will able to save more time once we practice enough to be able to solve the RC's w/o writing anything down
But I would love to get more tips as I am too struggling with the time thingy.
As someone who got every question of RC in IPMAT 2025 correct (fr i was surprised myself lol) I would recommend NOT writing down the points. I suggest you read the questions and their options first, OPTIONS are very important, and then go about reading the essay, what this will do is that it will convert your skimming the essay, and missing some points into scanning the essay and taking in whatever is necessary. This also helps in inference and theme of the para type questions as you would have 4 themes u need to decide between beforehand :)
But when do that I often miss the tone of the paragraph, and what's worked for me is reading whole before answering, as understanding whole as helped me bring it down to 4 mins in daily RC.
Woah, all the questions correct!!
Now, I like do not write anything at all, the focus has somehow increased and therefore I have stopped jotting the points down.
Though the speed has not increased much.
I feel like speed in RCs or reading english in particular for me is built by regular reading, I have been reading novels since i was a literal kid. One thing that you can do is use those websites that check your reading speed (WPM) and steadily increase it over time.
okay, thank you!
bro how did you score so high in all RCs so well please tell some tips i am going to give the exam in 2027.
Hey, I myself used to score way less but I implemented this one thing and since then I have never got more than 1 wrong.
So I jot down atleast one point (just 3-4 words are sufficient too) from every paragraph and that's it.
( I think it helps us to understand the crux of the RC and there it creates a summary sort of thing of every para and rc in our minds)
I honestly didn't used to get what the RC really wanted to convey or the link from one para to another also used to get break by just reading the RC passively,n it have helped me a lot so u can give it a try too.
this is how I started exercising it.
This is how it looks now (ik it looks like complete mess)
Thank you for your support.
yo thats soo long. And here I was, thinking I'm writing too much
Haha! Now I like do not write anything at all, the focus has somehow increased and therefore I have stopped jotting the points down.
though the speed has not increased much.
Thank you for your time,
I will surely use this trick and see if my marks increase or not. I think it will be tough but i will abide by the trick and follow your rules.
any updates bud?
what is a good pace for rc, i just started doing timed rc, i can do one in around 6-7 mins. i heard there are lik 5-6 rc , so is this pac fine or should work to shorten it even more
see, good pace jaisa kn hai, I mean it is subjective, depends on the lod and length of the passage. But yess, 6-7 mins is pretty good, I don't think you need to do anything more or say differently atleast for RCs.
"I heard there are 56 RCs"- refrence? (I mean kahan h 5-6 RCs?)
.
what
UPDATE:
So, I still haven't figured out how to actually reduce the time.
there is like literally no progress (ik It takes time) but still, please help!

Pin-point why this is happening:
So many other reasons exist. Once you become cognizant/aware of why you're taking more time, you'll be then able to work towards a solution.
Right now, I also saw (other comments) that you're writing while solving -- so, you'll be taking a minute or two longer, that's the nature of writing it. Slowly, you'll start writing less. I write less than 10-12 words for the entire passage. I just build the structure.
One more tip might be to write the summary first (Q7), and then jump to solving the questions.
You'll not see changes in a couple of months, it is a very gradual process!
"Slowly, you'll start writing less"
Bhavesh bhaiya, I have never wrote anything for rc ever.
Is there a structure that we can follow to jot down points?
I don't know how to make notes for rc.
what's the best way to do so?
Have shared an example under Tip #2: https://youtu.be/Fi9_cCjIDJY?t=78
