Doubts

I have a doubt..if it says|x|{ 20

Doesn't that mean x is positive only in itself? Why to find -ve side and in -ve side tooo

If we apply formula..n=l-a/d+1 where l=-19..a=-1..d=2 toh -19+1l/2 +1 =-8 not 10 isn't it????

Let's take l=−19,a=−1,d=−2l = -19, a = -1, d = -2 (note: you have to take MINUS 2 here because the terms are -1, -3, ...):

n=l−ad+1n=\frac{l-a}{d}+1

n=−19−(−1)−2+1n=\frac{-19-(-1)}{-2}+1

n=−18−2+1n=\frac{-18}{-2}+1

n=9+1n=9+1

n=10n=10

|x| < 20

Verify the above by putting x = -19:

|-19| < 20

19 < 20

Hence, x = -19 is accepted as a solution.
