Is having a strong profile really important for the interview round? Should I focus on curricular activities too to have a good profile?

If you have the time and the interest, sure go ahead and do extra curricular activities. but dont do it for the sake of it i'd say.
If you can answer these well, no one's asking about your ECAs. If you can't, no ECA is saving you.
