and this is the first question
now the problem is , we have to find the total number of female students who opted for specialization across all five B-schools combined .
In order to find that, we need to find the no. female students in different b-schools one by one who has opted for finance .
lets take zenith,
total students = 480
male = 300
female = 180
now in table 2
it is given that males in finance are 30% (zenith)
so for eg. it means that there are X number of students in finance (zenith)
out of which 30% are males and rest 70% are females
in order to find the no. of males you need to know the number of finance student in zenith , which is obiviously not given.
now when i checked the solution, the percentages were given as the percentage of total males (which was not mentioned in the question)
It should be explicitly stated in the question, otherwise how am i supposed to know that whats to total of which i am calculating the percentage of.

'From total number of males in that school, 30% anre in finance' this is the interpretation. It cannot be a percentage of total males because, 1 person cannot study in 2, 3 or 4 Bschools at once, because the sum of males as a percentage section is not 100% 🙂
I never said that it is a percentage of total males.

Let's assume there are X no. Of students of finance in zenith ,it's given in the column that "males in finance= 30%"
So it implies that out of the total students of finance in zenith 30% are males and 70% are females.
You can't find no. Of males/females until Total no. Of students of finance in zenith is given.
30% of males means out the total male a school has

I faced the same problem, I don't think its an error, just ambigiously worded. I just tried both approaches during the set and worked with whichever worked. :)
Yeah error is not a suitable word here,
Even I was able to solve that, but when I tried to find the logic behind the approach it was not given in the set. So even though if it's correct I can't go with it cause there is no logic to support that approach.
Although from now on , I will make sure to go with any approach that works, the main should be to get all answers correct
Fair, Another thought that went through my mind while solving the set was that if 30% is to mean 30-70 ratio in finance then that would lead to many calculation complications. Idk if it would still be solvable with that constraint, maybe i take it up as a math puzzle, but assuming 30-70 is just too math heavy to be a subpart within the calculations of a dilr set
basically 30-70 approach felt too complicated for a dilr set
