Think smart.

xx is always negative.

yy can be negative or positive, but y2y^2 will always be positive.

So, if I multiply a negative and a positive (xy2)(xy^2), I'll have a negative number.

Hence, I can keep y=0y=0, get the product to 0 (which is greater than a negative number).

This feels like a common GMAT question (based on the trick applied).
