Geometry

Hello, this is Tejas Kumar from IIM Indore.

For IPMAT Indore, it is impossible to predict from which topic an easy or medium-level question will appear in the exam. Any topic, no matter how small, can directly affect your final score.

1. My Initial Mistake

I was in a similar position to you. Until January, I prepared almost everything except geometry. I then started giving 1–2 mocks and realized a critical issue:

there were questions that I knew how to solve conceptually, but I was unable to recall the required formula simply because I hadn’t revised geometry properly.

This kind of gap can cost you 4–8 marks for free, even though those questions are highly scorable.

2. What I Changed

After realizing this, I went back and revised my geometry basics thoroughly. I focused only on:

• 1. The material provided by IMS (my coaching)
• 2. Revising the sectional mocks again by my coaching.

I did not solve any extra geometry material beyond this. Instead, I made a deliberate trade-off.

3. Smart Trade-Off Strategy

While I limited geometry to basics:

• 1. I practiced extra material for Number System, Algebra, and Arithmetic
• 2. I ensured that every advanced geometry question that appeared in the 20 mocks I gave was fully solved and understood.

This strategy ensured that:

• 1. I would never miss an easy or medium geometry question
• 2. I was still maximizing scores in higher-yield topics

• 4. OutcomeIn the final exam:1) I scored 36 marks in SA

• 2) 67 marks in MCQ

• Out of these, 2 questions were from geometry, both of which I was able to attempt confidently.

glad to hear , you're done with your syllabus except geometrty.

should you leave it or not depends on your current mock scores , if you're performing and scoring good in sa and mcq section without that you're good to go.

ii) should you go for practising and mastering other topics apart from geometry now , ofc yes ipmat is all about variety and building that acumen to tackle problems with unqiue approaches to try and solve more of those questions.

iii) Start giving mocks buddy , and analyse them well. Just completing the topics are of no use if you are unable to score good , analyse which topics need more practice and go to the basic revision and then solve few questions to build the idea.

• mark new and different questions which require unique approach and analyse them well , that where you lacked to understand or after which step you felt lost.

You're doing good , just don't get demotivated when you're unable to solve the questions ,

remember - each unsolved question teaches an unique approache behind it
