Before IPMAT: What Actually Matters Right Now

So, 2 days to go, aye? It’s completely normal if your mind feels a little all over the place right now. A bit of anxiety, overthinking, and “what if” thoughts are expected at this stage. Everyone is going through it in some form. Just focus on staying calm and keeping your head clear.

Let’s get the basics right for exam day. Your exam is on 4th May, so sleep on time the night before. No last-minute cramming, no trying to be a hero. Wake up calmly and give yourself enough time so you’re not rushing. Carry your admit card and a valid government ID like Aadhar, passport, voter ID, or driving license. A pen is usually provided at the centre, so you don’t really need to carry one, but if you still do, take one you don’t give a damn about because if they are providing one, they’ll just ask you to throw yours away. Carry a transparent water bottle, the heat is intense right now and dehydration will mess with your focus. Wear comfortable clothes, you’ll be sitting for two hours without an A/C, so just settle in properly and focus on your paper.

One thing you absolutely cannot ignore is reaching the centre on time. Last year, people got stuck in traffic, reached late, and things went bad. Parents were literally outside the gates, begging, requesting entry, asking for a second shift, but Indore couldn’t give a rat’s ass. The gates closed and that was it. No re-exam, no exceptions. So please leave early, account for delays, and reach comfortably. Don’t risk your attempt over something this basic.

Once you’re inside the exam hall, your only job is to stay composed. Sit down, take a breath, and start the paper with a clear mind. Whether the paper feels tough or easy, remember it is the same for everyone. Panic will only hurt your performance. This is just an exam and it will pass. And a small but important baat, agar agal bagal koi bhi ladka ya ladki pasand aa jaye, do not look at them, do not think about them, and definitely do not start planning how you’re going to strike up a conversation after the paper. You are just going to butcher your own prep because you’ll stay distracted thinking about them. Completely avoid this. The paper will move on and you’ll be stuck in your head. (Yes, this has happened with people I know, lmfao.) Also, try not to interact with people before the exam. Some come with a very casual attitude, some start comparing preparation levels, and some just carry weird energy. Stay away from all of it. Do not interact with anyone until your paper is done. Protect your focus.

It’s also important to step back and look at the bigger picture. This exam is important, but it does not define your life. After this, you will go to college, make friends, go on trips, experience new things, and grow. Yes, at some point you’ll probably even get blackout drunk (within limits please) and laugh about phases like this. Not getting into a so-called “top” college is not the end. What you do wherever you go matters far more. The grass is greener where you water it. At the end of the day, all of us still have 50 to 60 years of life ahead. Let’s not act like everything is decided right now. A career matters, but so does living. 50 or 60 years down the line, most people won’t even remember you were here. So LIVE.

As a final message, know this: If your chances are not zero, if there is even a 1% chance, then fight. Fight through the doubt, fight through the exhaustion, fight through the odds. Stay in the fight until the odds no longer favor the other side. Leave nothing unanswered. Refuse to be removed from the fight. Stay longer than the math expects you to, and always bet on yourself, especially when the world bets against you. Do it even when things feel heavy, even when nothing seems to be going your way, because victories like that are different. Win out of spite. Win because they thought you couldn’t.
