Hello, I am such a guy who got above 200 and did not make it into any of the ipmat colleges that I applied. My lesson about interviews is this:

Firstly, the usual things like knowing your subjects really well and going through the interview question banks availible on the internet (provided by afterboards, aceipm, mocktopus, and interviewo). Get mock interviews, preferably after your ipmat scores are released, which is plenty of time actually. Please read newspapers especially the editorial section at least 3 4 months before the exam itself and don't give up that habbit.

Secondly, interview body language matters a lottt. I forgot to unbutton my suit in the beginning and the interviewers corrected me and it was slightly awkward. Smiling is very important like throughout. Even if you are giving correct answer without any facial expression then high chances they may not like you. Fix these in your mock interviews.

Thirdly, do not fall into the trap of extracurriculars and stuff. Don't pursue random certifications on courses Udemy that will negatively effect you actually. If you have done some proper stuff and have certifications for it like sports or some sort of social work then good. If not then also absolutely no problem I have two friends who had none and got top 10 air so that shouldn't be a problem.

Fourth, self belief. I wish I had more of this or else I wouldn't have been so nervous. After getting 203 (36,36,131) i wasn't able to crack a single ipmat college and got iimbg instead (JIPMAT exam for which I did not even prepare gave it for fun). I wish I had taught myself from beforehand that even if Indore doesn't happen then also not big problem. Even if ranchi amritsar none of that happens and bg happens, then also not big of a deal. Bhavesh bhaiya said no that college is your y intercept slope you determine that is very true. Also, those posts you see in reddit where people are like, "do people crack good packages after getting colleges like iim bg or third tier management colleges?" This is not a correct question actually. Mindset should be not to find an answer to this question but to become an answer instead. I also want to become that guy who did well in life after failing indore and getting bg. So even if it doesn't work out for you, you will be fine.

Now close forums and give sectionals and mocks lolol.

Firstly, I would really suggest you to focus on your written exams primarily. If you're so concerned about the interview stage right now, you can surely prep in a manner that's curated to help you get better in areas of improvement specific to you parallely, but do remember that there'll be no interview for you to be worried about, without clearing the written.

To answer your question though, there's no inkling that 200+ is a 'par score' and that it directly relates to getting a sureshot admission at your preferred college. Surely, data might hint towards it a bit, but there are outliers too, many at that.

Bhavesh bhaiya frequently recollects the case of one such student sometimes, to state as an example - There have been students who scored 260s but couldn't get in ; And I've mates here who've got a score lower than 200 and are enjoying life here.

So, repeating our goat's words - Interviews are like a veto round. If a panelist wants you, if you present yourself in a manner that's authentic, he's surely going to fight for you. At the same time, if you seriously alienate them, trust me, however high your score is, you may not have a chance at all, and the moment you come out of the interview room, your notion on whether your interview went well or not, is yours, and it's highly subjective. Just because you felt it went really well acc to your expectations, doesn't mean they think the same way, and of course, vice versa.

Coming to tips for prep, figure out your areas of improvement. Some might feel they lack a bit in Current Affairs, some might tell that while they are good at solving questions in a subject, explaining the concept might be a problem, etc.

That is when you'll be able to effectively improve yourself. Read a newspaper everyday for a short while, increase the time gradually (ps - make sure to have a critical mind when doing so, too), else whenever you solve a question, maybe in quant for eg, try proving it, make yourself feel uncomfortable, and start from scratch, and the progress will make you happy.

There are mainly Three segments of an IPM interview

First there’s the personal round — intro yourself, why IPM, why this specific college (matters more than you’d think, they can tell if you googled it 5 mins before). They’ll pull random lines from your application form and grill you on it, so actually re-read what you wrote before you go in. Family background comes up a lot too like what your parents do, any business in the family etc. And make sure to prepare awnsers before hand of generic questions like strenghts , weakness , why we should reject you wagera wagera . ALSO IF U HAVE A NICHE HOBBY MILK IT.

Then there’s the guesstimate/thinking stuff(not that important though) . Classic ones like “how many autos are there in your city”.The trick isn’t getting the exact number right, it’s showing you can break it down logically — state your assumptions, split it into chunks, sanity check at the end.

They also throw in current affairs too (a whole lotta more imp than guesstimates ) , so keep half an eye on business news, budget stuff, RBI news, state capitals , all cabinet minister and imp people of india like governor of your state etc .Also questions specific to the city u live can be asked

Last one is academics(THE MOST IMPORTENT ) , and ppl underestimate this the most. It’s straight up 11th/12th syllabus, especially basic math. Also dont think that if u r of science background they wont ask physics and chem questions, In one of my interview only chemistry questions were asked.

Academics make or break your interview, straight up.

Hi I feel this is quite early to be thinking about the interviews. But if you still want to start I would say read newspapers, discuss headlines with friends and start impromptu speaking (maybe in front of the mirror). That should be a good start.

Yes, it's true that people with high scores got rejected just because the interview didn't go well. Please also remember that a high scores will give an edge nonetheless so 95 percent of your focus should be there ideally.
