Every college has an admission matrix which shows the criteria for each of the components:
| Indore | Shillong | Ranchi | Rohtak | Jammu | Bodh Gaya | Amritsar | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seats | 150 | 45 | 60 | 198 | 140 | 120 (upto 30% SNG) | 60 |
| Exam | 65% | 30% | 65% | 55% | 70% | 100% | 70% |
| Interview | 35% | 50% | 15% | 15% | - | – | 25% |
| 10th | – | 10% | 13% | 10% | 15% | – | – |
| 12th | – | 10% | 7% | 20% | 15% | – | – |
| Diversity | – | – | 5% (addl) | – | – | – | 5% |
Let us understand this by taking IIM Ranchi's example because it also tells us how they convert the boards percentage into the respective 13 and 7 points:
| Percentage Range | ≥ 90% | ≥ 85% & < 90% | ≥ 80% & < 85% | ≥ 75% & < 80% | ≥ 70% & < 75% | ≥ 65% & < 70% | ≥ 60% & < 65% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10th Grade | 13 | 11 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 3 | 1 |
| 12th Grade | 7 | 6 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1 |

Imagine you scored 190/360 in IPMAT Indore and have 90%+ in 10th and 12th.
So, you've scored:
Exam (65%) = (There is no official rule if it is marks scored/total marks or marks scored/highest mark -- this can change a lot of things).
10th (13%)
12th (7%)
So far, you have 54.3 out of 85 points. The remaining marks come from the interview (worth 15 points).
If you're a female/trans candidate, you'll have 59.3 out of 70 marks (due to the additional 5 points in diversity).
Now, you can use your common sense and see how much your board marks would affect you... and how much you'd have to compensate for the same.
If another student got 190/360 in IPMAT Indore but had 86% in 10th and 88% in 12th, they'd have a total of points.
They have a deficit of points as compared to the first student.
How much is that in IPMAT Indore marks terms?
Hence, you need 4 more questions right in IPMAT to compensate for it. I hope this makes logical sense (and has also helped enhance your DILR skills).

Could you please provide the points system for class 10 & 12 w.r.t IIMI? (@basicallybhavesh)

Bhaiya is there one for rohtak as well? How nany marks would i get out of 10 in 10th if i scored 88%?
They've not revealed it.

good then , youre in the same boat as me
yesshhh. POV: Gen students be be like
lol
Bhaiya on what basis do they see like taking CBSE as an example so it says for best 5 do IIM also see best 5 Or they see your total.
Every other IIM does it differently. See the 2nd FAQ: https://www.afterboards.in/ipmat-cuet-ug-application-tracker
i have got 73 in 10th and 71 in 12th .so do i stand a chance to get into iimranchi?i am ageneral candidate.
you have to score very high brother. all the best
does iim rohtak not have any GD points? i thought it was kinda famous for giving that
None of the IPM admission process has GD. What gave you this assumption?
Gender diversity
Aiyo, okay. GD is commonly known as Group Discussion (which happens in CAT: they call it GD-PI and in some cases, GD-PI-WAT).
Rohtak doesn't have any explicit diversity points in IPM. You're conflating what happened with MBA. However, Rohtak's batch does have more girls than boys -- so there could be something internal at play (but not as extreme as what happened in the CAT level).
ohh ohkayy my bad
thanks for the info!
Bhavesh Bhaiya, (54.3-51.3=3 not 2, sorry, just being cheeky there)......Amazing Analysis, BTW how is a 115 score in ur VARC sectional, What score is it equivalent to considering Ipmat Indore 2025.
Ah, made a typo -- fixed it, thank you!
Use the general rule of thumb for VARC:
4 x No. Of Easy Questions + 2.5 x No. Of Medium Questions + 2 x No. Of Hard Questions
Bhaiya I'm lagging behind thumb rule by 10-20 marks from past 3-4 sectionals, earlier than that it was lower but now I have improved a little, so what should I do?
Keep improving. You know the 5-why analysis, you can see your SWOT and notice what needs improvement. Focus on learning from all your wrong/unanswered questions, get more exposure!
Ok bhaiya 👍🏻
I am barely above the thumb rule and my quants is just way too weak. Like 12 in SA and 24 in Mcq( I am a dropper)
So should I be worried because I only study 1-2 hours a day and Negligent about the preparation
The more you /suck/ at something, the more time & effort you need to put into it.
Your marks while being a dropper (and I'm assuming a gen-candidate) is very concerning. Have good backup options because Indore is very unlikely unless you have the best academic comeback in the next ~80 days.
Bhaiya I didn't quite understand the thumbrule you stated, have you explained it in detail in some other post or can you please elaborate with an example?
got it, is there one for quants too?
None for quants, the objective is to patch the knowledge gaps from the wrong/unanswered questions!
got it
Bhaiya can you please explain the thumb rule of VARC being discussed.

Update (28 February 2026): IIM Ranchi has changed it to 8% weightage to 10th and 12% weightage to 12th.
Imagine you scored 190/360 in IPMAT Indore and have 90%+ in 10th and 12th.
10th / SSC (as per new table): ≥90%⇒8 points
12th / HSC (as per new table): ≥90%⇒12 points
So far, you have (34.3 + 8 + 12 = 54.3) out of 85 points. The remaining marks come from the interview (worth 15 points).
Now, if another student got 190/360 in IPMAT Indore but had 86% in 10th and 88% in 12th, then from the new table:
10th / SSC: 86%⇒6 points (85–90 bracket)
12th / HSC: 88%⇒10 points (85–90 bracket)
Total = (34.3 + 6 + 10 = 50.3) points.
They have a deficit of 4 points as compared to the first student.
How much is that in IPMAT Indore marks terms?
65×360marks=4
marks=654×360=651440≈22.15
So, they need about 22.15 more marks (out of 360) on the IPMAT score to compensate for the board-marks deficit.
Is there still 5 points for gender diversity?
Yes.
