Should you fill IIM Shillong?

IIM Shillong had ridiculously low cutoffs last year because:

1. They released the application very late (most people had moved on and joined colleges by then).
2. They had online interviews, hence, had more bandwidth to interview a LOT of students. If you want to interview more people -- you have a lot cutoff.

Will the same low cutoffs occur this year? I don't know. You don't know. No one knows, definitely not the influencers who do bak-bak online. They could make it much higher, anything can happen.

IIM Shillong gives 50% weightage to the interview, 30% to the IPMAT Indore scores and 20% to past acads. However, they also only have ~45 seats.

How to decide?

1. Last year, gen-students (good SOP, interview etc.) at 160ish marks were also selected (after interview), so, this goes to show that low scores aren't an issue because of the low weightage given to the exam.
2. If there's no financial problem, apply karlo, having a real interview is worth the ~Rs. 2000.
3. Note: There's no NC-OBC reservation in IIM Shillong. If you have less than 135 marks in IPMAT Indore, I would recommend skipping the application for Shillong (unless no financial problems and you want to try your luck).

This post isn't to entertain "bhaiya, should I apply if I've scored XYZ marks?" -- use your best judgement. I genuinely don't know + we don't have enough data about Shillong to come to a conclusion.

Anything could happen. Hell, I had the lowest general male score (117/240), only 7 marks more than IIM Ranchi's cutoff, I still made it to the college. I know a junior who had the exact mark as cutoff (but female -- so +5 in points) and made it to IIM Ranchi too.

With IIM Shillong, we just don't know. Anything can happen. I wish I could give you a more realistic and actionable yes/no answer BUT it just doesn't exist.

Note: If you ask this question to coaching centers, most will lean towards filling it so that they can also sell you their interview course/batch, to each their own -- just keep this in mind. If a student had 149 gen, I'd tell them that there's 0 chance for IIM Indore. We're not here to sell you interview courses. Please do NOT be misled by random sources.

The lowest gen-score that got accepted in Indore was ~190ish last year.

(and malum nahi kaha se information late hai, IIM Shillong RUNS IPM -- it exists; rohtak, jammu, bg do NOT take your Indore scores, ghanta kuch bhi jfc)

I'm sorry for being upset but it is genuinely frustrating when people spread misinformation to make sales.
