Ask Me Anything - First Year at SSCBS

Hey guys, I'm Aditya. I joined SSCBS this year, been a bit over 3 months. I also ended up dropping a year after boards, here's an overview of my journey:

  • Wrote IPMAT in 2024, didn't prep seriously, didn't keep backups, didn't clear it.
  • Wrote CUET in 2024 too, but didn't prep AT ALL and didn't even look into the DU Admission Portal and all (results were way too late)
  • Ended up joining a private college in Pune, realised in a few months I didn't belong there at all.
  • Dropped out in January after looking for colleges again and deciding to focus on SSCBS, started preparing in February.

and I've also worked a lot for AfterBoards from June 2024 to July 2025, I still do sometimes, but not as actively since I've joined college and become really busy.

I really want people to know about SSCBS and consider it alongside the IIMs, and not make the same mistake I did last year. The environment and exposure here is crazy for growth. Ask me anything, be it about me, CUET prep, or questions about the college!

I can't help with QA, but I did study for VA a lot. I used AfterBoards flashcards a lot to improve vocabulary, they're amazing and I learned over 1400 words in 2-3 months or so. Other than that, it's literally just consistency. Give sectionals, look at your SWOT, practice where you're weak. I also did the daily RCs, they helped A LOT. After all this, I was able to clear IPMAT 2025 VA cutoff effortlessly, had 2 hours of sleep the night before lol. Build a good base and just be consistent!

Hey, I had 186/250 I believe, at 99.3 percentile. I had CUET Adda 247's books for PYQs, but I didn't use it that much, I think they were free with some course I had bought, I mainly went through PYQs via YouTube videos and the AfterBoards platform, a lot of the PYQs are uploaded here for absolutely free and very convenient to go through too. Mocks, I did AfterBoards and Adda 247, AfterBoards one were great, Adda had a few errors here and there but were decent enough, great practice.

WHAT TO AIM FOR SRCC OR SSCBS?

SSCBS
OP•11mos

That depends on you completely. I dunno much about SRCC, but it surely has a better brand name and tag (and campus) than us. Guess the course you prefer and future aspirations also matters, SSCBS is great if you want a future in consultancy.

The environment is crazy, lot of exposure and growth opportunities. You're suddenly in this crowd of people who were in Mumbai for a crazy internship a week before, or who just got a rank at IIM Ahmedabad, you talk to them, learn a lot. There's also societies, recruitments are a brutal process but once that's done, you're in societies and have to learn and work a lot, on live projects with real firms or just a society's regular works. Balancing it all with good attendance and assignments is tough, but it's never a boring life. Professors are okay-ish, nothing very special. Some are chill, some are strict like a regular college. It's mostly societies and hustle culture that allows students to grow crazy here.

Hi Aditya, i have queries regarding double droppers, And also some tips about preparation for GAT, English and Maths,

Go on, ask your queries.

For tips:

GAT: Practice is everything. I watched CUET ADDA 247 daily practice marathons, they helped improve speed by teaching tricks and all too, good resource.

English: Study IPMAT level VA, and you'll prep for CUET English automatically, it's really a piece of cake. This year, a lot of vocab came, so start working on that, incase it's the same next year.

Maths: I had core maths, and I watched Shashank Singh Rajpur Sir for that, he's an amazing teacher and there's a lot of quality content on his personal and Adda 247 channel.

Alongside all this, find and give good mocks and analyse. Most important.

Is double drop problematic?

OP•12mos

I'm not exacly a double dropper, but even I'm 2 years late. There's no problem per se, just people teasing you a bit about age lol, nothing serious. I don't think it's gonna affect placements and all but I'll ask that to seniors ek baar at college.

I used AfterBoards, nothing else. Flashcards, daily RCs, SWOT Analysis, topic tests, mocks all are life-savers. Be consistent with them, analyse solutions, and that's it. Also build a good base in English, so it comes to you naturally, it helps a lot.

Hi, can't help in Applied as I had Core, but the ultimate answer is mocks, from what I've seen, Applied just requires a lot of practice and speed-building, mocks will help better than anything.

For GAT and Math, I've helped in a reply to another comment, read and ask if you have any specific question or query!

Hi Aditya,Hoping you are enjoying a good time in SSCBS.Can you tell me that

1)How many science stream students are there and did they face any challenges in studying subject like Economics, basic accountancy how did they manage it?

2)I have seen many CBS student in linkedin that they excel in many competitions held by various colleges, how they are good at it?

3)Lastly, What is the college life do you guys get time for hangouts and explore Delhi as curriculum is hectic i have heard?

Hi, thanks, yes I'm having a great time, but sometimes it's very tiring and down too, all learning experiences though.

  1. I would say about 30-35% are science students, including me haha, so I can answer this. Yes, accounts is a bit of a struggle, I recently had my accounts test and I don't think I did very well. But college gives resources like PYQs and notes, and we also get weeks of prep leave before exams, guess I'll have to utiliize that time and resources to do well.

  2. It's the environment at the college, you're educated on case competitions, ppt, research from like, day 0, and you learn from crazy people. We have seniors who have wins at IIM Ahmedabad, corporate comps, and even global level case comps. Just 2-3 months ago, even I had zero idea about all this, but I've learnt a lot now, and I continue to learn.

  3. The curriculum (BMS) is not as hectic as other things. The first couple months of college were the MOST chill, when societies hadn't recruited and there wasn't a lot of case competitions talks, we (me and PG friends) hung out everyday, explored Delhi but then since after recruitments, we have been balancing assignments, tests, attendance, competitions, societies work alongside personal life. We don't get as much time now, even weekends are quite hectic because you get more work to do in them. Once a week, we still get out somewhere but yearh, it's more hectic now, and second year gets even more hectic with internships and all. Dunno how we'll manage, but it's never a boring life.

Hi Aditya,

I’m currently preparing for admission to SSCBS and wanted to ask if you could please share some guidance on how to effectively prepare for the Maths domain and the GK section in the GAT.

Also, if there are any additional areas or skills I should focus on apart from these sections, I’d really appreciate your insights. Your advice would mean a lot.

P.S. My name's Aditya as well - Guess that's a lucky name for SSCBS :P
