AMA [1.5 months at SSCBS]
Hi everyone, I am currently a BMS fresher at SSCBS. Here is a little background on me:
Prepped 2 years for IPMAT, gave 60+ mocks specifically of IPMAT Indore in the end couldn't clear it switched to CUET PYQs and ended up at SSCBS. At the moment, absolutely loving it here! (Government college mai ac mil gaya ;) )
Doing this post to clear any doubts regarding absolutely anything at all that any junior might have! Feel free to ask.

hi , what was your score in GAT ?
And did you do anything for static gk? if yes was it worth it?
No, I never studied anything exclusively for static Gk. I just happened to be fortunate enough to know the answers to some of the static gk through the things I have seen/ read in daily life such as movies, books, random news I heard of, lessons taught in school.
For example one static gk question I was asked was "Who is the author of the book, 'Wings of fire'"?
I rememberd the answered of this question through the movie "12th fail" that I had watched a while back before the exam, and happened to remember it. The name and the author of this book was particularly highlighted during one of the scenes.
Raw score: 187
Normalised score: 164
oh ok thanks
My question is as you gave so many mocks and practiced a lot what constrained from getting into iim like what was your scores in the ipm papers you gave?
I don't remember my indvidual scores however here is the list of IIMs that I was able to convert:
IIM Kozhikode
IIM Rohtak
IIM Amritsar
IIM Jammu
Would have most likely converted IIM bodhgaya too, however I did not pay its waiting list fee, I did not apply to IIM Sirmaur and IIM Sambalpur.
Hey , Congrats!
Did you have mathematics as a subject? if yes , can you please share insights on how to manage CUET Mathematics prep with IPMAT QA?
Hi, yes I had core mathematics as a subject. It is a mandatory subject if u want to get into sscbs.
For balancing the CUET maths with IPMAT QA here is what I did personally
I had a private after-school tutor for maths [really great teacher].
So, here is how I handeled my overall prep
For example when I had my school exams then I used to do board prep and when I did not have exams I used to do IPMAT prep, so overall you could say except May, July, October, December, January (board practical exams) I used to study for IPMAT all the time as I did not have school work pressure then and when exams are coming around I used to study the CUET syllabus.
BUT for accountancy and mathematics end moment prep won't do it, along with the 1 hour tutoring that I had daily for both of these subjects I used to revise a particular topic for when I had a test for it in the tuition which saved me from end-moment cramming.
Therefore, if you want to excel in subjects like these providing 1 hour daily to them (almost) is a must. End-moment prep won't cut it at all.
For balncing, I'd suggest u to study for IPMAT whenever the school pressure has easened but do not neglect board prep at all that is what got me into sscbs. And while you are doing board prep keep attempting cuet topic tests side by side to help u practise with mcq.
PS: Just because I had a tutor doesn't mean that u need to have one too, u can do it through self-prep too by creating a schedule similar to mine or what is the most comfortable to you, you can schedule tests of your own or ask your school teachers to give you one (a lot of them will do it actually). Having a tutor worked out better for me because I am not that self-disciplined and good at following a fixed schedule tbh
Thanks , Actually i am a dropper... i got all the time for my prep as i haven't joined any offline coaching or any local college
I think i am doing decent in VA/English , i only have second thoughts about Mathematics.
On afterboards i have purchased CUET Mathematics and CUET general test along with IPMAT prep
hey congrats
ok so im a 12th grader rign now and am very stressed bout the whole cuet ordeal. i wanna get into sscbs bba/bms so how did you EXACTLY prepare for cuet? now ik preparing for ipmat automatically means a lot of prep for gat i believe but what about english and domains?
For english and GAT IPMAT prep sufficed for me
For domain subjects I studied really well for boards and did CUET PYQ side by side
I did not use any paid resource for CUET the free PYQs and topic tests are enough for me
Rn u can try and doing the topic tests as soon as u are done studying that topic
is sscbs worth after full drop then a partial drop?
is there any second dropper ?
ex ipmat aspirant got a call from rohtak, jipmat 303 ,cuet 691(gat combination) hardly 20-25 days of prep (prepared from a very shitty coaching and it was 1st attempt didn't appear with 12th )
joined tier 2 college muj , finance enthusiast
two options are thier for me:-
MUJ(dedicated to couses/certifications/bloomberg) + CFA + internships + CAT/MiM later
vs.
Partial drop(some skill buildin i.e excel financial modelling, data analysis) β better-brand DU college + CFA β stronger finance profile
1.pros and cons
2.how should i prepare material and coaching recommend(for applied maths ,gk and english) etc in order to get good output in limited time coz time will be allocated in along building and learning new things i.e excel or python(3hrs) and college classes(3.5hrs) and commute(2hrs)
3.how are peers and real opportunities for growth which is worth switching especially placements
I am preparing for ipmat rn (partial dropper) and i was not from cbse board, my stream was commerce with math , so should i try giving cuet bhii π ?
Give me a reason why you should not try giving it. What will be your opportunity cost if you do CUET prep and then decide is it worth it?
the syllabus gap is the main issue, ncert is way more advanced from what i had in 12th, so learning from scratch and managing college and ipmat feels a bit overwhelming in this timeframe
Hey, congratulations on SSCBS! How did you prepare for GAT? Since the course is vast, I don't have a clear idea of how to study for it.
I studied IPMAT LR and was able to solve all the GAT questions in my cuet exam. I think that almost all of them were correct. I never really prepped GK.
Hey congrats on sscbs :) When did you start solving cuet pyps for gat and what do you think is the right time to especially for someone who has not yet completed their syllabus and not giving ipmat. Also it'll be great if you can tell me more about bms and what is it that one really studies in it?
There is no right/perfect time to start writing PYQs. If you wait for the prefect moment to write one then trust me you will never write it, as the syallbus is never-ending.
Irrespective of how much syllabus you have completed you should keep writing PYPs on regular intervals to know your standing and the level of your knowledge. In fact if you have not written any then write one right now.
I wrote a PYP/mock whenever I felt like it.
For more detailed info on the course you can refer to youtube. Here are the subjects that we are offered in the first sem in BMS, a "/" means that you get to choose between those 2 subjects:
-
Financial accounting analysis
-
Fundamentals of management
-
Business Statistics
-
Entrepreneurship essentials/ Python
-
Fit India/ Constituency (not sure of the exact name of the constituency one)
-
Environmental studies
helloo as a pcm student, for subject combination along with english, core math and GAT do i have to take either physics and chemistry? also out of 250 how much would ideal cuttoff or safe scores for each subject?
Hello
The current subject combination for SSCBS is GAT+ Maths+ English+ 1 Domain, so yes you will have to either opt for physics or chemistry. You can also opt for both physics and chemistry and in whichever you score higher will be considered.
There is no ideal cutoff or safe score for each subject. Your cumulative score is considered so even if u mess up one subject you can cover for it by scoring higher in another subject.
Ideally, and to avoid getting affected by normalisation you should aim for 250/250 in each subject so that you score something close to that at the least, especially the easier subjects for example business studies in commerce domain is considered a very easy subject in one should preferrably avoid losing any marks on or use it as a means to cover your low marks in the other subject.
thanks, any tips on how to preparee for GAT especially current affairs? static gk with lr and quant is set. right now im doing very well in english as im not getting more than 3 questions wrong, math and physics is set because i had taken electronics in class 11th so half of 12th physics is already done. sscbs and gurugobind is my backup if i dont get iim indore or shillong.
The subject combination currently required for sscbs is english + gat + maths + 1 domain. So yes, as a pcm student you will have to take either physics or chemistry. You can also opt for both physics and chemistry and the subject in which you score higher will be considered.
There is no ideal cutoff or safe score for each subject. At the end your cumulative score will be considered. Therefore, even if you score low in one subject you can compensate for it by scoring higher in another subject. You should ideally try and score 250/250 in each subject so that you score at least something close to that and it also helps you avoid being heavily affected by normalisation.
can an arts with math student eligible for SSCBS , please provide me more info about the programme that you are pursuing. ( was just prepping for ipmat :( so dont know much about cuet) . what subjects do i need , is english , math , Gat + pol science fine for eligibility at sscbs . ipmat prep would help in eng and gat?
Yes, an arts student with maths is elgible for SSCBS. I am currently pursuing BMS (Bachelor in management studies). For a detailed explanation on what this course is about I believe youtube would help you in a much better way than this. But for a generic idea it is quite similar to a BBA I would say the only difference is that BBA is more business focused and a BMS is more management focused.
Yes, ipmat prep would help with cuet eng and gat prep. I myself never prepped for cuet eng and gat exclusively. I simply prepped for ipmat and that side by side prepped me for eng and gat too.
Tysm, could you please that you know how many arts student in the batch( just wanna know that there are arts students as well)
I am yet to meet an arts student in the college. :,)
Also what all subjects do one study in the first year of bms at sscbs
You can refer to my response to epstein's question
Hey I've taken a private college to pursue bba since my CUET score was around 470 ,the shitty normalisation traumatized me .
I've made my mind to take a partial drop and appear for cuet 2027 .
I'm very confused about how i should be preparing since I want to get into sscbs and more importantly i hate the crowd here ( worst crowd ever ) there's no sense of competition . 75 percent attendance I'd ocompulsory and every Saturday the cllg is off ,saving Grace I'd get two days a week for my prep.
Last year i fucked my GAT and maths exam.
I don't want to repeat my mistake I'm willing to do the grind, just need help with prep strategy.
Earlier i thought I'll tell my cllg friends that I'll appear for cuet 2027 but i didn't and I planning not to do so ,i don't wanna fall prey to crab mentality.
My subject combo is GAT , Maths, English, bst
My advice: make your prep strategy on your own, something that fits you according to your own pace and how well u r able to manage and learning speed. Even if someone comes and tells you the prep strategy, how well will you exactly follow it? The initial hype dies down soon, the difference between a kid who is able to perform well and who isn't that the former keeps that excitement/hype to prep and study throughout the year, with their own highs and lows but they make sure they are not in the low for a long time.
You have made up your mind now but u need to remember that this determination should last throughout ur prep and not let it be a candle flame that has been lit only for a short while.
For bst: mug up the ncert A to Z, u should understand it first and how everthing works especially the numerical part but in the end to solve MCQs u need to memorize it A to Z, every small box, every small point. It is a v.high scoring subject in CUET.
I really appreciate your response. I do find bst easy , Maths and GAT are my main concern.
I'd make sure that I carry this determination throughout my prep .
In GAT ,gk part is endless so I'll focus more on reasoning and quants and calculus in maths feels daunting to me .
How can I strengthen my maths prep ?π
congrats, so just wanted to ask as to if you were from commerce domain and if so, how did you prep for your domains may i ask
Yes, I am from commerce domain.
For mathematics and accountancy I had private after school tuition, both of them conducted regular tests and I had to study them on a daily basis. I prepared these subjects mostly through them.
Business Studies: my school teacher used to regularly conduct small class tests and make us memorize one small topic daily. I prepped this subject with the help of my school teacher. If you consistently mamorise one topic every other day then you will not have to cram much at the end moment.
Economics: I did not have a hard time understanding this subject. I find it quite logical. I prepped it through self- study.
English: CUET and school english is v.v.different. I relied on afterboards and aeon essays to study english. You may refer to one of my answers to another student where I have mentioned the particular features and resources I used for it.
First of all congratssss. Also how did you prepare for eco I'm a little weak in memorising things so ied and businesses studies are a little hard for me..
Unfortunately, the only way to prep IED and Bst is through memorizing. You may understand these subjects but at the end of the day you will need those keywords to get those marks in board exams and solve mcq in CUET. You will have to memorize the NCERT Bst book from A to Z, I did the same. However, every time u pick up the book to memorize it again you will find it easier every time to memorize it, trust me :)
Ooo πππ but I literally forget it every single time and which books did you use?
Like I'm focusing on ipmat rn so I don't get enough time to revise them again and again.
Economics- Sandeep Garg
Accounts- DK Goel for first book and TS grewal for the 2nd and 3rd book
Maths- relied on tuition
Bst- NCERT
IPMAT- any coaching material will do + afterboards + youtube marathons for revision
Thanks soo much.
Hello
First of all congratulations for getting into SSCBS
I wanted to ask you how did you switch over from IPMAT to CUET? Because the syllabus and prpearation are completely diiferent
Did you always have CUET as a backup or just prepared for Boards really well?
Thank you!!
I did not have CUET as a backup, I was kind of an IIM Indore paglu not even other IIMs only Indore paglu [unfortunately nahi hua]. I solely registered for CUET because for me it was an exam that every 12th kid gave especially that too a commerce one. So yeah, I registered for it because everyone around me was registering for it too.
I never exclusively prepped for CUET ever I just prepped for boards really well.
I used to give CUET PYQs to practice MCQ questions for board exam and I also liked how it gave u so many oranges ;)
I barely wrote any CUET mock in the month of April.
But I still remember that day very well i.e. 11th of May right after the Rohtak exam the Indore response sheet came and seeing my score I had a pretty clear picture ki Indore to door ab Ranchi bhi nahi hoga.
I spent the next 3 days crying and then started giving cuet pyqs again. By now, only 5 days were left for my first cuet exam.
I had no hope from cuet as every single one of my peers had spent the past 1.5 months studying for it and here i was going in with 5 days of prep.
Unexpectedly, the tides ended up in my favour and I was able to perform well.
Wow. That is incredible to hear
Thank you for this response!
Yupp, what was your exact strategy for cuet english like what are the exact things u did for it? and also as I have really decent time for cuet 2027, how should I devote this time to english & domains section like can u suggest month wise strategy I mean resources wiseπ
Hi
I used to study for IPMAT in the months when no school exam were there and used to study the domain subjects when I had school tests for example unit tests or pre-boards. I studied board exam syllabus in the months of may, july, october, december and rest of the months i devoted to ipmat prep.
During the period of Jan to march I did a mix of ipmat and board exam prep, for example I had a 10 day gap in my business studies paper and 2 weeks gap in my maths paper so I did ipmat prep then.
In the end it is up to you, I felt like giving time to ipmat prep whenever i had less work load was the right thing to do because my teachers were always there to put pressure on me to study for board exams but there wasn't really anyone who was gonna be on my back and tell me to do ipmat prep
I remember we used to do daily vocab in ab forums
yesss I remember too
how are u doing?

Ofcourse! This is the least I can do to give back after how much the free CUET PYQs and this forum has helped me in my prep.
