Monu rides his bicycle northwards, then turned left and rides one km and again turned left and rides 2 km. Monu found himself exactly one km west of his starting point. How far did he ride northwards initially?

Solution

Correct Option: 2

Going north, then left (west) 1 km, then left (south) 2 km lands him 2 km south of the northward point and 1 km west. Since the final position is exactly 1 km west of start, the southward leg (2 km) must equal the initial northward distance. So he rode 2 km north.
