X and Y are partners in a firm sharing profits in the ratio of 3:2. They admitted Z as a new partner for 1/4 share. The new profit sharing ratio between X and Y will be 2:1. Calculate their sacrificing ratio.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 1

After Z takes 14\frac{1}{4}, the remaining 34\frac{3}{4} is shared by X and Y as 2:12:1. So X gets 23×34=12\frac{2}{3} \times \frac{3}{4} = \frac{1}{2} and Y gets 13×34=14\frac{1}{3} \times \frac{3}{4} = \frac{1}{4}.

Sacrifice of X =35−12=110= \frac{3}{5} - \frac{1}{2} = \frac{1}{10}; sacrifice of Y =25−14=320= \frac{2}{5} - \frac{1}{4} = \frac{3}{20}.

Ratio =220:320=2:3= \frac{2}{20} : \frac{3}{20} = 2:3.
