The solid and the Surface area (S.A) of the following solids are given below.

(A) A cube of edge 9 cm., S.A = 486 cm2486 \text{ cm}^2

(B) A cuboid of 18 cm. long, 14 cm. width and 7 cm. height, S.A = 108 cm2108 \text{ cm}^2

(C) A cylinder with diameter of 14 cm. and height 80 cm., S.A = 3520 cm23520 \text{ cm}^2

(D) A sphere with radius of 14 cm., S.A = 2004 cm22004 \text{ cm}^2

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 3

Cube: 6a2=6×81=4866a^2 = 6 \times 81 = 486, correct. Cuboid: 2(lb+bh+hl)=2(252+98+126)=9522(lb+bh+hl) = 2(252+98+126) = 952, not 108. Cylinder with r=7r = 7: curved surface =2πrh=2×227×7×80=3520= 2\pi r h = 2 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 7 \times 80 = 3520, correct. Sphere: 4πr2=4×227×196=24644\pi r^2 = 4 \times \frac{22}{7} \times 196 = 2464, not 2004. So (A) and (C).

Note: For (C) the figure 3520 is the curved surface area; the total surface area would be 3828, and we have read S.A. as curved surface area. This is an error by NTA, we've retained the same to put you through the same trauma as your seniors. Issues like this will probably repeat this year too, be wary!
