Rural Development and Sustainable Development- Need of The Hour

On the basis of given passage answer the following questions:

It is clear that until and unless some spectacular changes occur, the rural sector might continue to remain backward. There is a greater need today to make rural areas more vibrant through diversification into dairying, poultry, fisheries, vegetables and fruits, jaggery making and linking up the rural production centers with the urban and foreign (export) markets to realise higher returns on the investments for the products. Moreover, infrastructure elements like credit and marketing, farmer friendly agricultural policies and a constant appraisal and dialogue between farmer's groups and state agricultural departments are essential to realise the full potential of the sector. Today we cannot look at the environment and rural development as two distinct subjects. There is need to invent or procure alternate sets of eco friendly technologies that lead to sustainable development in different circumstances. We need to understand that sustainable development aims at promoting the kind of development that minimises environmental problems and meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of the future generation to meet their own needs. In 2015, the UN formulated 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) intended to be achieved by the year 2030. Use of Non-conventional Sources of Energy, LPG, Gobar Gas in Rural Areas, CNG in Urban Areas, Solar Power through Photovoltaic Cells, Traditional Knowledge and Practices, Biocomposting etc are strategies of sustainable development. Sustainable development has become a catch phrase today. It is 'indeed' a paradigm shift in development thinking. Though it has been interpreted in a number of ways, adherence to this path ensures lasting development and non-declining welfare for all.

Select the correct one from the following about the organic farming.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 1

A recognised limitation of organic farming is that the choice in producing off-season crops is quite limited, so option 1 is correct. Organic food is in fact more nutritious, demand for organically grown crops is rising (generating export income), and organic produce may have more blemishes but a shorter, not longer, shelf life than sprayed produce.
