Ajay, Bhanu and Chetan are partners in a firm sharing profit in the ratio of 3 : 4 : 2. Bhanu wants to retire from the firm. The profit on revaluation on that date was Rs. 1,80,000. New ratio between Ajay and Chetan is 5 : 3. Profit on revaluation will be distributed as :

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 2

Revaluation profit arises from changes belonging to the period before retirement, so it is shared by all partners including the retiring one, in the old ratio 3:4:23:4:2.

Ajay =1,80,000×39=60,000= 1,80,000 \times \frac{3}{9} = 60,000

Bhanu =1,80,000×49=80,000= 1,80,000 \times \frac{4}{9} = 80,000

Chetan =1,80,000×29=40,000= 1,80,000 \times \frac{2}{9} = 40,000

The new ratio is a distractor here.
