Read the passage given below and answer the questions.

Narrative writing, at its core, is the art of storytelling. When you're reading a narrative, you can assume that the author intends to entertain. Like other types of writing, the narrative form too has certain elements: Interestingly the characters need not only be human, but can also be defined as anything that thinks, acts and talks like a human, for example, fantastical creatures and talking trees in the Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia. The characters are part of the plot or sequences of events in which while there is a climax, foreshadowing and flashbacks fill in the details. The focus of the narrative lies in its conflict- both internal and external. The character's emotional turmoil is presented through thoughts, while external conflicts are visible. They may be representative of person versus nature, person versus person or person and society. In some case, the narrative follows a linear, chronological progression. A viewpoint narrative that focuses on the narrator's perspectives or a descriptive narrative that focuses on how the story is setting, characters and objects look and feel.

Irrespective of form, the narrative follows a structure wherein the main character pursues a goal and faces a challenge. The conclusion after the climax, wraps up loose story threads, satisfies readers remaining curiosities and positions the protagonists for life after the story's events.

Which among the following are characteristics of narrative writing?:

A. It has a prescribed length

B. It follows a structure

C. The characters are an integral part of the writing

D. In some narratives, the author does not narrates the story through.

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

Solution

Correct Option: 2

The passage clearly states 'the narrative follows a structure' (B) and that characters are part of the plot and integral to the narrative (C). The passage does not mention any prescribed length (A), and statement D is unclear/incorrect. Hence B and C are correct characteristics.
