Abhishek and Balkishan are partners sharing profits in the ratio of 2:1. Chandrika is admitted into the firm for 1/4 share of profits. Chandrika brings in Rs. 20,000 in respect of her capital. The capitals of the old partners Abhishek and Balkishan, after all adjustments relating to goodwill, revaluation of assets and liabilities, etc., are Rs.45,000 and Rs.15,000 respectively. Calculate the cash to be brought in or paid off by the old partners to adjust their capitals in new ratio.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 2

Chandrika's capital of Rs. 20,000Rs.\,20,000 for 1/41/4 share implies total firm capital =20,000×4=Rs. 80,000= 20,000 \times 4 = Rs.\,80,000. Old partners' combined capital =80,000−20,000=Rs. 60,000= 80,000 - 20,000 = Rs.\,60,000, shared in new ratio. New ratio: remaining 3/43/4 split 2:12:1 gives 2:1:12:1:1. Abhishek's required capital =60,000×2/3=Rs. 40,000= 60,000 \times 2/3 = Rs.\,40,000; Balkishan's =Rs. 20,000= Rs.\,20,000. Abhishek has Rs. 45,000Rs.\,45,000, so he withdraws Rs. 5,000Rs.\,5,000; Balkishan has Rs. 15,000Rs.\,15,000, so he brings in Rs. 5,000Rs.\,5,000.
