Capital employed in a business is Rs. 1,00,000. The normal rate of return on this type of business carried out is 10%. The firm has earned profits of Rs. 30,000; Rs. 36,000 and Rs. 42,000 in the last three years. Using capitalisation of super profits method, calculate the value of the goodwill of the firm.

Solution

✅ Correct Option: 2

Average profit =(30,000+36,000+42,000)/3=36,000= (30{,}000+36{,}000+42{,}000)/3 = 36{,}000.

Normal profit =1,00,000×10%=10,000= 1{,}00{,}000 \times 10\% = 10{,}000.

Super profit =36,000−10,000=26,000= 36{,}000 - 10{,}000 = 26{,}000.

Capitalisation of super profit: goodwill =26,000×100/10=2,60,000= 26{,}000 \times 100/10 = 2{,}60{,}000.
