Need guidance on stabilizing VA+ overall mock strategy( with cbse boards coming up)
I have been attempting mocks and sectionals. I am doing good in QA but my VA performance is very volatile. Some days it is good and clicks and on some days it drops really bad.
Recently i have been focusing mostly on VA,
- Reading The Hindu(with both editorials)
- giving a sectional test
- Reading a session of WPME
- revising flashcards
- going through 40-50 idioms and phrases from the list i found on forums(1600+ pages), not memorizing but exposing myself to them
i have been doing above said things EVERYDAY.
Now ,
- Should i keep doing the above said things everyday ( accounting for the Fact that Board exams begin from 24th Feb)?
- How to stabilize VA performance across mocks and sectionals (maybe even score high) , so that i dont risk missing the cutoff by a few marks in the Verbal section
- How much should I give to my boards prep and how much to my IPMAT prep?
I am willing to study atleast 8-9 hours everyday (focused) and more if necessary for both Boards+Ipmat
i have attached my VA SWOT , and my past few mock scores in VA have been 93,117,92,121,118,116 and past few sectional scores have been 103,131,141,94,100,126,112
It will be really helpful if bhavesh bhaiya or someone from the team could go through my account (mocks, sectionals,SWOT etc) and view my performance and guide me on what my strategy should be from here for VA (and QA too),

Did you score 90+ in preboards?
Yeah , i scored around 91% with strict checking (where teachers admitted they cut my marks for no good reason in theoritical subjects)
And that time i was more focused on IPMAT so studied approx 1 day for each exam for both my preboards
what are your mock full length scores ?also attach your swot

Well if it's for QA, it’s in a comfortable place for me right now, so I’m not spending time on it till boards are done.
I’m mainly trying to stabilize VA and execution.
Would appreciate any advice on that

I can't access ur account to get deeper analytics but what I can see is that you are overattempting - dont attempt qs if u cant reduce it to two options. all ur planning and all r top notch abt what to do and all but planning is sth every aspirant does top notch even the ones who have no intention to fulfill it - so make sure u do actually study 9hrs a day but not like a zombie sacrificing sleep and clocking hours spent semi-consciously studying.
yeah do that 1600 idioms, good that u rnt trying to memorize it, but merely exposing isnt enough. each time u scroll a page u should try to guess the meaning from the phrasing, this ability if u manage to aquire will help u a lot in eliminating options too far away from the meanings. ur attempt rate is fine, like 95% is what proper preppers attempt so dont reduce it but try to guess more accurately, ur accuracy should be above 80%.
as for what to do during boards, i used to study 6hrs a day during it, 1hr ipmat and 5hrs boards (my normal was 3-4hrs ipmat after finishing boards syllabus at the same pace before aug). u can optimize and allocate time depending on how relatively strong u r at these, but always prioritize boards above ipmat, that can mess things up for PG colleges which will be ur main identity throughout ur professional life
Currently I am studying on average around 8.5 hours a day , and atleast 7 hours of that is completely focused , and though the remaining is not that good , it's still great but working to improve that
About the idioms and phrases , that's exactly what I was doing !! , I tried guessing the meaning based on the words even when I was revising , and many of them can be inferred cause they are obvious, after reading the idioms I also see the Hindu meaning cause I feel that really helps retention, so thanks for this list , I felt it has really helped me especially in sentence completion section
And what should I work upon to improve my accuracy to 80%+ , should I attempt more tests like I am doing or should I analyze the ones I am attempting or should I practice specific topics??
About the boards, I am good at that, even in the worst case scenario I won't get less than 90% (like even if cbse set a nightmarish paper in history my accounts exam went well (will get 100 if I didn't commit some silly mistakes) , and I feel that getting 95%+ is easy but after that the last 2-3 % can be really hard to get ,
I did get 96.8% in class 10 in my main 5 subjects , but IIM Indore asked for aggregate of all subjects that appeared on marksheet so I had to include IT and my percentage dropped to 96% , but I guess 96% is still top tier(even though IIM Indore doesn't have direct weightage for boards but still) ??
Yes, 96 is superb. It gives u full credit in CAT ofc but also as an impression anything above 95 for cbse is great.
hey synicdx, i worked on improving my accuracy and just hit 80% today , i am working on stabilizing and improving it even more but i have observed a specific problem, my accuracy is around 91-92 % on the easy questions and around 77-78% on the hard questions but only around 75% on medium questions , and i have also gone through my sectionals and i usually find that the Medium ones prove to be the toughest for me in many cases
And how can i improve upon the medium ones??
the difficulty ratings arent etched in stone or some holy scripture, whats tough for u may be easy for some whats easy for u maybe tough for some. the ratings r given based on what the avg person finds it, so improving on the 'medium' one is just improving on VA in general no specific prep for 'medium' qs exists
