Low VARC and QA accuracy in IPMAT prep how to improve?

The issue I’m facing is that even after watching concept videos, I often feel the topic is still incomplete. I understand the idea being taught, but when I start solving questions, my mind turns kinda blank and i take too much time in solving a simple question. For example, after studying VARC for most of the time didnt even touch QA or LR today, I could only solve around 11 basic questions correctly out of 25.

I feel stuck between “knowing the concept” and “applying it in exam-style questions,” and I also end up spending too much time on one section in a day.

I’m unsure whether I should re-watch videos, move on to questions, or change my approach entirely—especially since time is limited.

I am new to IPMAT space and quite recently decided to give IPMAT.

Any guidance from seniors or mentors would be really helpful. Thanks!

Hey there ,

I get it , been there, done that

Firstly make sure you don't zone out watching lectures . Everything seems to make sense while listening someone else speak, try to actively learn rather than passively listen to one shots.

What i would suggest - start making notes along with the lecture ( leaves less scope to zone out since you actively act on the information received by writing it down)

Cut down your distractions, don't keep on checking notifications between the lectures, ( it may sound trivial but believe me it's going to work wonders)

I would say watching lectures can take you so far only, doing questions is the real deal.

You need to analyse your mistakes carefully

Make two columns - conceptual errors and execution error , whenever you make a mistake in a concept you never studied put it in the first category, whenever you see a concept where you did know it, but could mark the right answer put it in the later one. Once you have attempted enough questions, you shall have data to see what's the real issue - if it's the conceptual gap ( which it is not likely to be ) , it's a win win situation, you are learning. But make notes of each and every mistake you made.

But if it's an execution gap, copy paste the question to gpt , ask it to generate 5-10 similar questions and master that concept!
